History

The city of Bonney Lake has a long history, having incorporated February 28, 1949 as a town with a population of 327 people.  By 1957, there were 12 businesses in Bonney Lake, with several shopping developments underway.  By 1965, the population had increased to 1,280.  Today Bonney Lake is a thriving community with a population of over 16,000 and approximately 800 licensed businesses.

 A bedroom community for commuters, Bonney Lake is known for its affordable real estate and in the last 10 years has become a shopping hub for neighboring communities.  With large retailers like Home Depot, Lowes, Fred Meyer, Safeway, and many more.  Bonney Lake has become very convenient area for people living in the area.

Education

Quality educators make Sumner School District one of the premier districts in the South Sound region. Sumner school district includes all areas in Bonney Lake and includes many elementary, middle, and a high school.

The Sumner School District has more National Board Certified Teachers than any district of our size in the state. Rigorous academic programs, attention to success for all students and preparation for the 13th year are important to us.

Recreation

With several lakes in the area including, Lake Tapps, Debra Jane Lake and Church Lake, Bonney Lake provides many recreation opportunites on the water.  It is also located close to the Crystal Mountain ski resort which is rated as one of the best snow recreation sites in the area.  There are also many trails in and around the area and are managed by the Bonney Lake Trail program.  Bonney Lake is serviced by many great parks for recreation and fun including a great skate park for kids and adults alike.

Real Estate

Once an area in between Sumner and Buckley, Bonney Lake has become it's own vibrant, community with shopping and great recreation that many people now call this area their home.  With all of the great amenities, many homes have been built in this area and it continues to be an area where you can find a lot of home for your money.  With the commuter stations and the Sounder train just minutes away down the hill, Bonney Lake has become a great place to find a home.
